Routefinding

  • The 'citymapper' app give you options for quiet (or fast) cycle routes
  • London Cycle Routes youtube channel  has very informative videos of cycle routes that avoid main roads. 
    • Current routes include ‘Herne Hill to Borough Market’; ‘Dulwich to Deptford’; Brixton to Streatham; Dulwich to Brockley; Loughborough Jn to Dulwich; Crystal Palace to Croydon; Brixton to Dulwich; East Dulwich to Clapham

Help with costs and bike hire

Fancy giving cycling a go, but not sure you or your child are road ready? 

  • Pedal My Wheels (in partnership with Southwark and Lambeth) organise local second-hand bike sales and options for short-term cycle hire, allowing would-be cyclists to try the trend before they buy the bike and fully commit. 
  • Ourbike Community cargo bike share scheme
  • Chariots of Fun – free bike trailer hire 

Cycle training and building confidence

  • Cycle Confident's  offers free cycle training programme for both adults and children (available in cooperation with Southwark and Lambeth) 
  • If as a parent you don't feel cycle-ready and are a female, Southwark cooperates with a programme called 'JoyRiders' which provides free group cycle rides for women. Join up for a group ride and they'll even lend you a bike. 
  • Herne Hill Velodrome offers many activities for kids and adults
  • Wheels for Wellbeing  promotes inclusive cycling to help those with disabilities access and enjoy the benefits cycling.
  • London Cycling Campaign has helpful tips to build up confidence and to stay safe 
  • Cycle Sisters is a charity focused on creating accessible and empoering spaces for Muslim and ethnically diverse women to cycle and become for health, confident and connected
